Discovery of a Transitory Structure
ORI-ORI-AN is a portable and extensible pavilion made out of steel hangers. The project proposes a porous structure assembled by numerous units, unit which is composed of 4 distinct hangers combined together. The hangers are loosely connected by steel wire, which maintains the redundancy of each joints, allowing the structure to be both foldable and extensible. Such flexibility and usage of the materials - materials that are easily consumed and thrown away - implies the further recyclability and adaptability of this structure to be used in multiple purposes (such as furnitures, temporary evacuation hut, etc...). The excessive use of hanger creates various degree of overlapping steel wires, realizing a transitory view that oscillates between the state of see-through and sight-blocking, allowing the pavilion to behave similar to a fog. The design was initially realized as an installation for an exhibition, and later was selected as a winning proposal for a Tea House competition in Ginza, Tokyo.
