A Music Hall made of 4560 walls...

THE SOUND TRAPPER is a music hall constructed by approximately 4560 walls, driven from a hypothesis that “Every Music Halls have 16% of Poche ratio compared to the void”, based on a case study conducted on other music halls such as Lincoln center, Casa De Musica, Walt Disney Concert Hall...and so on. Instead of qualitatively defining the form of the music hall, this building radically attempts to express this Architectural nature of Musical buildings, by quantitatively dispersing the required area of poche (1600 Sq Ft : 10000 Sq Ft) using standardized 20mm thickness and 1700mm wide panels on the site. The overall building site takes a circular shape, which the arrangement of walls are programmed to be denser on the periphery and sparsely on the center. Due to the transition of the density, various scale of rooms were spontaneously created, while on the periphery, the extreme agglomeration of walls act as a single structure, allowing to create additional spaces by excavation. The random walls reflect the sound from the central music hall, trapping them in various tones, scale and volume, creating diverse condition of spaces to listening to music.
